Philip Acree Cavalier, Ph.D.
Dr. Philip Acree Cavalier serves as provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs at University of Tennessee at Martin. Prior to his appointment at UTM, he served as the provost at two residential liberal arts colleges, Lyon College in Arkansas and Eureka College in Illinois. Dr. Cavalier was also a faculty member at Catawba College in North Carolina for nine years, and a Fulbright Scholar for one year in Kiev, Ukraine, where he taught American literature courses at two Ukrainian universities. He earned a Ph.D. in English from the University at Buffalo, an M.A. in English from Northeastern University, and a B.A. in Economics from Swarthmore College. He and his wife Carol have three sons: Toby, who is a senior at Swarthmore College; Benjamin, who is in his first year at Franklin and Marshall College this fall; and Elijah, who is in 10th grade. They live in Martin, TN.
