Lois Bernstein

Tacoma Health Careers High School Community Collaborative

    Lois Bernstein is the Chief Community Executive at MultiCare Health System. MultiCare is a not-for-profit health care organization with more than 18,000 team members, eight hospitals and an extensive ambulatory network serving both adults and children. Bernstein joined MultiCare in 1998, and has overseen both support and clinical departments including Marketing and Communications, Philanthropy, Adult Day Health, Home Health and Hospice, Nutrition Services, Healthy Living and Health Equity and Government Affairs. Lois currently oversees MultiCare’s community presence and partnerships with organizations in MultiCare’s broad service area.

    Before her tenure at MultiCare, Bernstein served in leadership positions at University of California, San Diego, Mercy Hospital, and ScrippsHealth in San Diego. She currently serves as a trustee for Tacoma Community College, and board member for the Foundation for Tacoma Students and the Crystal Judson Family Justice Center. She is a senior fellow of the American Leadership Forum. Lois has received numerous awards for her civic and professional leadership including the Girls Scouts of Western Washington Women of Distinction, the Business Examiner Women of Influence Lifetime Achievement Award, the Chuck & Helen Matthaei Building a Healthier Community Award and the Michigan State University College of Communication Arts and Sciences – Outstanding Alumni Award.

    Bernstein earned her B.A. in communication with honors from Michigan State University, her M.S. in rehabilitation counseling from San Diego State University, and her MBA from University of California, Irvine.
